Venus retrograde always gets reduced to the same list of warnings: exes come back, don’t cut your hair, don’t get married, don’t buy anything expensive. Fine. Sometimes those things are relevant, but Venus is much more interesting than that, because Venus is also taste, desire, attraction, pleasure, value, money, self-worth, projection, what we are willing to receive and all the strange ways in which we convince ourselves that we want something.

When Venus retrogrades, some of that gets pulled apart and looked at again. Sometimes an old lover does come back, but sometimes what comes back is an old relationship pattern, an old fantasy, an old money story, an old version of ourselves, or simply the realization that something we have spent years wanting does not actually fit anymore.

This Venus retrograde moves through Scorpio and back into Libra, which makes it especially interesting because we are moving through themes of intimacy, power, attraction, compromise, reciprocity, attachment, eroticism, value and the places where desire becomes entangled with fear, excitement or drama.

I don’t want to do another workshop about what Venus retrograde means “for your sign.” I want us to look at your actual chart and see where this is happening for you, because Venus moving through your 2nd house is not the same story as Venus moving through your 8th, and Venus crossing your natal Saturn is not going to feel the same as Venus crossing Jupiter, Pluto, Uranus or the Moon.

We are going to look at where Venus is retrograding in your chart, what your natal Venus already tells us about the way you love, attach, desire, receive and choose, and which parts of your chart are being activated during this cycle.

We are also going to look backwards, because Venus retrogrades work even better when we look at the past in order to understand the current loop you are in. There is usually a longer pattern underneath the current moment, and sometimes the most interesting question is not “what is happening now?” but “what did I choose last time?”

Because some desires are completely real, some are inherited, some are compensatory, some come from fear, some come from old family or relational patterns, and some are simply trauma…

The question is not always “will they come back?” Sometimes the much more useful question is “why did I want them in the first place?”

And sometimes the biggest Venus retrograde moment is realizing that you no longer have the same taste you had eight years ago. Or the opposite.
